Here's an interesting one...NTT DoCoMo, the biggest mobile operator in Japan, will now be shipping at least one Windows Mobile based phone.
Previously there was a bunch of noise about DoCoMo standardizing on Symbian and Linux.
I guess they haven't. :)
There is another Windows Mobile phone in Japan. It's the Sharp W-ZERO3 that has a 3.7" VGA screen. Pretty slick.
My phone of choice these days is the new T-Mobile SDA. I'm more of a "phone" guy than a PDA/phone type person so the candy-bar style works for me, and the dedicated music player buttons are a nice touch. The screen is a brilliant QVGA - to be seen to be believed.
There still needs to be work done in three areas here:
- One is just getting apps on the phone. The BREW phones from Verizon really have done a good job there and right now Windows Mobile phones have a bit more "friction."
- The second is the media sync with the PC although my latest encounters with Windows Media Player 11 tell me that there are vast improvemenst in the near future.
- Finally, the min-SD card socket on the SD is under the battery - just kind of a pain. However, putting a 1GB mini-SD in there does the trick nicely.
