We celebrated my son's 6th birthday on Saturday - a big milestone now that he is finishing up Kindergarten, reading voraciously and working out multplication tables as we drive to breakfast (you laugh, but my three old plays with an abacus). We had the party at the Lawrence Hall of Science - a great place to hang out in Berkeley and get hands on with all sorts of science stuff. It wasn't all science - we had a SpongeBob Squarepants birthday cake. Yum.
The gifts ranged from some good books to the 3D Space Projector - basically a cool looking projector with sets of 3D space images, including a pair (good idea) of substantial 3D glasses and an audio CD soundtrack. We set this up in the closet at home (to get it really dark) and showed cool Hubble images on the ceiling.
They had a planetarium show for all the kids in a little dome about the size of a living room - much less intimidating than others I've been in.
Best of all, we have a bit of cake left over in the fridge.
