Your uncle Ed suggested I take a look at your blog and comment on your dilemma of trying to set up a videoconferece between a Mac and a PC.

My experience has been that Mac to Mac conferencing using iChat and 2 iSight cameras is just great --- I never have problems connecting and quality of transmission is usually pretty good (~15 fps going across the country) with the main problem being some intermittant loss of audio at times.

But Mac to PC is another story. The best I found when I was looking for a solution about a year ago was iVisit (www.ivisit.com) which has a free "lite" version --- the main restriction is that image size is restricted --- as well as a regular $ version. I've used the lite version with fairly good success, but it doesn't compare with iChat.

The main problem is trying to get these things configured correctly. I can only speak to the Mac side, but my biggest problem has been with the Sound Preference under System Preferences. Making changes in Input or Output seems to give me problems with the usual solution being to restart the application. All I can say is that it sure helps to have two fairly savvy people at both computers and a good phone connection!

Good luck.

Sightspeed works great for pc to mac video calls and it also lets you send video mail which is pretty cool.

Benefits of Vdeo Conferencing

About six months I witness the wonder of videoconferencing when I was asked to deliver my lecture from my university to a high school via video conferencing. First I was thinking it was just a camera recording my lecture and will make the necessary editing to show the high school students but later I realized that I was interacting with the students live. Great technology
