In every industry there is the search for the "killer app", the piece of functionality that makes something essential, more than just a gadget.
I spent my last evening at the 3GSM trade show in France packing up and watching the movie "Ray" on DVD. Good flick.
There's a scene where a toddler drowns in a tub of water. As I watched it my whole body became cold. I immediately stepped outside and called my three year old daughter at home in California, half way around the world but just a few key presses away.
She came on the phone and told me all of the things she did at pre-school that day.
Talk about a killer app.
Well, many things have improved life without being indispensable. However, only a few things have become essential. I believe the tablets to be among the first, but with the possibility, unfortunately not exploited to date, becoming the second.
