I recently strated a "reunion blog" with some fellow Kindergarteners. Yes, almost 30 years since and we're trying to get a reunion going. I think having my son just start Kindergarten thsiu year has given me a new appreciation/understanding for that time.
I thought a photo blog would be an interesting way for people to communicate - post old and new photos, comment on photos, etc. I used this TypePad system to get it going (and yes it's password protected).
I found a few class photos the other night that I thought I would simply scan and post. I had been fiddling with Adobe Photoshop Elements and thought I would just acquire, edit and save the image through Elements.
I purchased UMAX flatbed scanner maybe two years ago - very reasonable scanner with USB. Unfortunately it came with ghastly software called VistaScan. Just tortuous. It turns out the scanner isn't even recognized unless you install the entire 30 Mb software suite - nice.
VistaScam, I mean VistaScan, also adds all sorts of "helpful" color correction to the scan which you can turn off if you navigate through the Advanaced section. I prefer my scanner to just scan. I'd rather fiddle with the color, etc. in something like Elements.
So I load up Elements and click "Acquire". The old VistaSpam software comes up and I dutifully scan in five or six images, previewing and scanning carefully. After I am all done I click "Exit" so control can be given back to Elements and I can begin editing the images.
There's a slight pause when I click "Exit," and then a longer pause. And then a longer one. And then "Not Responding". Arrgh!
After 15 minutes of waiting I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and lose all the images and start over. This time I just scan one. Same problem! Then I scan the image, exit and then pull the image up in Elements off the hard drive - works fine.
Apparently there is a nasty bug in the handoff between VistaScram and Elements. And by then it's late, I'm tired, and my four month old just woke up.
