As I wheeled around at the local Costco today with my 5 and 2.5 year old in tow, loaded down with diapers, wipies, toilet paper, paper towel, paper napkins....and one of those mega boxes of fig newtons, I saw a 61" Samsung DLP television on display and on sale for $3699.
Has the world gone mad!?!
This is a top of the line set, with a DVI with HDCP input (as well as a component interconnect), and 61 stunning inches diagonal in a 16x9 configuration. It runs less than 20" deep and I've never seen it on sale for less than $4000.
Toshiba recently dropped their LCOS line (a competitive "light engine" technology to DLP) and introduced their own DLP line. I haven't seen them yet but given Toshiba's reputation for great quality and value they should be real contenders.
One benefit of the new Toshibas over this model of Samsung is that the Toshiba supports the HDMI connector, which combines the digital video of DVI with 8 channels of digital audio in one cable.
But I must say the Samsung was tempting - imagine being sent on a mission to Costco for wipies and coming home with a 61" DLP set!
That would be rich.
