The external display of my LG VX6000 started working this morning after a few weeks on the fritz. If you recall I left it in a hammock for about a week and it was well watered in the interim.
The phone runs on the Verizon network and like many new phones you can use it for a bunch of "data services" as well as making calls. Data services means a few things, such text and/or photo messaging, accessing data through a browser, or running small applications such as games and other useful content.
Virtually every operator such as Sprint, Cingular, AT&T Wireless or T-Mobile has some combination of these data services as part of their monthly plan and Verizon is no exception. Verizon's applications service is called Get It Now and with it you can download and run apps like . . . Evel-ution!
Each app costs either $2 or so a month or a one time fee of $5 - $6. In most cases you can try before you buy. Why run apps on your phone? Entertainment, mostly, but there are more apps out there that can be helpful with information such as weather, restaurant guides, map apps (sometimes referred to as location based services) and other personal info management stuff.
To get technical, some games are written as Java apps, some are written as BREW apps, some are written for other environments, but not to worry - you will only be able to download apps that run on your phone, from your operator's network.
Getting back to Evel, I was a big fan of Evel Knievel when I was a kid. I even remember keeping a scrapbook with articles about his ill-fated Snake River Canyon jump. So when I saw an Evel Knievel game on my phone menu I had to give it a try. After a few clicks and a download I was jumping cars in front of Ceasar's palace while waiting in line at Togo's!
