Speaking of Starbucks (see previous post), I walked in there this morning and took a glance at the New York Times lying on the counter. Funny thing was, I knew about almost all of those stories already.
As opposed to being psychic, I have become inundated with news from every direction.
I hear it on the radio on the way to work, like most, but also I get alerts on my phone on "breaking news". Sometimes this "breaking news" is about Madonna's new album, but nonetheless there it is. I can even read the New York Times on my phone. I also get a pop up on my screen at work on news alerts. Plus, when I run my Yahoo home page, I get more news.
The San Francisco Chronicle even started throwing their newspaper onto my driveway. No charge!
I recently started using Newsmap, which shows the news with different color gradients and sizes based on the type and amount of coverage a particular story is getting. I'm thinking I'll get a more balanced view of what is happening in the world than these random alerts that someone deems to be "breaking news" or a "top story."
By the time the 11pm news comes on I know it already, probably more than they do. In fact, there' s really no need to watch it.
I think Jerry Garcia once said "too much is just enough." In fact, too much is just too much.
